Xtralean from Holland and Barrett

Xtralean Holland and BarrettXtralean is a weight loss capsule. The product has been around for a while, but not in its present form. The original formulation contained ephedrine (a problematic ingredient that can produce dangerous side effects), but the present day Xtralean capsules have cleaned up their act and are thankfully ephedrine-free.

At the moment Holland & Barrett appears to be the only retailer who stocks the product so it is possible that the product is being phased out entirely. The Holland & Barrett website also seems to be the only site that provides any information about the product, but their Xtralean sales page provides no insight into the potential benefits the capsules are supposed to provide or who manufacturers them. Holland & Barrett are without doubt a reputable company, but such a lack of information about Xtralean is hardly a selling point for the product.

How Does Xtralean Work

It is impossible to say what the offered benefits are meant to be because the Holland & Barrett website only provides a list of ingredients accompanied by some usage instructions. Judging by the ingredients used in Xtralean, the blend is probably designed to work as a combined appetite suppressant and fat burner.

Xtralean Pros & Cons at a Glance

The Pros

  • May provide appetite suppression
  • May encourage fat burning
  • Inclusion rates are supplied

The Cons

  • Blend has changed so available feedback is apt to cause confusion (which blend are reviewers referring to?)
  • No guarantee
  • Limited purchasing options
  • May be being phased out
  • No information about the supplier
  • May cause side effects

Dosage – How To Take

Two capsules should be taken before breakfast. Two more should be taken at mid-afternoon. Initial doses should be halved for the first seven days so the user can monitor for side effects.

List of Ingredients

Each capsule contains:

  • Caffeine Anyhydrous (115.9mg): Caffeine in power form. Caffeine is a proven stimulant that can provide extra energy and may also contribute some appetite suppressing effects.
  • Green Tea Extract (67.5mg): Green tea is a common inclusion in weight loss formulations, but its alleged fat burning prowess has never been successfully proven.
  • Ginger Extract (12.5mg): Ginger can be a magnificent aid to the digestion, but its presence here adds little of benefit to the mix.
  • Guarana Extract (51.4mg): Guarana is a potent source of caffeine, but the compound’s caffeine content is released quite slowly to provide a steady and prolonged source of energy.
  • Maca Extract (100mg): Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a member of the broccoli family. Its turnip-like roots are claimed to possess aphrodisiacal qualities and the ingredient offers many other health benefits. It is included here due to its (unproven) ability to reduce body fat by decreasing the body’s cortisol levels.
  • Yerba Mate (81.18mg): A South American shrub extract with a long history of medicinal use. Yerba mate is believed to assist weight loss, but evidence of this is lacking.
  • Acetyl L-Tyrosine (0.5mg):  An amino acid that aids thyroxin synthesis. The thyroid controls the body’s energy usage speed, so acetyl l-tyrosine is likely included here to provide a boost to the metabolic rate and induce fat burning.
  • L-Tyrosine (37mg):  The above ingredient listed under one of its alternate names.
  • Chromium (20ug):  Another diet pill regular. Many people believe the ingredient has fat burning potential, but such claims have been discredited by the National Union of Health.

Other considerations

Capsules are guaranteed to be free of: Artificial Colours, Flavours or Sweeteners, Preservatives, Milk, Lactose, Soya, Gluten, Wheat, Yeast, Fish, Porcine.

Customer Feedback

One Holland & Barrett customer gives the product a five star review and states:

“i have been using this product for a while now & really notice the difference would highly recommended.”

Forum reviews show a mixed response to the product and the fact that some customers complain of a racing heart suggests many online reviews may refer to the old blend, containing ephedrine.

Potential Side Effects & Health Issues

The caffeine content may be problematic to some users, but anyone who can handle a few strong cups of coffee should be able to take Xtralean without issue.

Possible caffeine-related side effects include the jitters, restlessness, nausea, headaches, and heart palpitations.

Pregnant and nursing mothers are advised to seek medical advice before deciding to take any form or supplement. The same advice is offered to anyone who has health issues or concerns.

Xedra-Cut XT with Capsimax

Xedra Cut Diet PillsXédra-Cut XT is a dietary supplement produced in the UK by USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition).

Not surprisingly given their name, the company produces an extensive range of sports supplements, but USN also market several products that are designed to encourage weight loss.

Xédra-Cut XT is one such product, but the available marketing material supplies very little information about the benefits the capsules are supposed to provide and the sporting influence is apparent by the claim:

  • Enhances performance

The previous statement shares label space with the promise “extreme thermogenic” so it would seem the blend is  also supposed to provide extreme fat burning.

Positives: Contains Capsimax and produced by a highly respected company

Negatives: Expensive, better option elsewhere

What Does Xedra Cut XT Do

  • Enhanced Performance:  The formulation contains a high amount of stimulants, so the capsules should prove beneficial to anyone who needs a little pep-me-up to get them through tiring training sessions.
  • Extreme Thermogenic:  The term “Thermogenic” is often used to refer to compounds that stimulate the metabolism and produce heat. Thermogenic ingredients are added to weight loss formulation to encourage improved fat burning abilities.

Whats In The Formula – List of Ingredients

Xédra-Cut XT contains three proprietary blends so although the inclusion rates for the three blends are provided the exact quantities of individual blend constituents is not.

Thee Xédra-Cut XT capsules contain:

M-phR™ Multi Phase Proprietary Blend (670.2mg)

  • Evodia Rutaecarpa (10% Evodiamine)
  • Carraluma Fimbriata (30% extract)
  • Capsicum (Cayenne) 200:1
  • Citrus Aurantium (30% Synephrine)
  • Fucoxanthin (10% extract)
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Iodotyrosine
  • Diiodotyrosine
  • Banaba (1% extract)

Without exact inclusion rates it is impossible to say how effective this blend may be, but Evodiamine is believed to have thermogenic qualities, and the ingredient has been successfully used to reduce the body fat of mice, but tests have never been carried out on human subjects. Synephrine is also credited with fat burning abilities, but cayenne is the only proven fat burner included in the mix.

USN- XT™ Proprietary Blend            (535mg)

  • Natural Caffeine
  • Green Tea extract (43% EGCG)
  • Yerba Mate (25% Xanthins)
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Naringin.

Caffeine will certainly provide some extra get up and go and may also help suppress the appetite. Yerba mate provides a further source of caffeine, as does green tea, but green tea also contains catechins (a form of antioxidant) that are believed to boost the metabolism and encourage weight loss. Glucuronolactone provides further stimulation and nariingin’s main claim to fame is its ability to enhance the effects of caffeine.

Bioperine® (5mg)

Bioperine is a patented form of piperine, sourced from black pepper. Piperine is responsible for providing black pepper with its fiery flavor and tests show the compound can burn fat as effectively as it does the tongue.

Usage Instructions

Two to three capsules should be taken (on an empty stomach) each morning, or 30 minutes before a workout. Six to eight hours later the dose may be repeated (with a small meal). Capsules should not be taken after 4pm and users are advised to drink 8 to 10 large glasses of water each day.

Supplementation should be discontinued after five days, but can be recontinued after a two day break.

Customer Feedback

Although feedback about some of the XT blend variations (there are several) is available independent feedback about the original XT product cannot be found. The manufacturer’s website contained just three reviews.

“Since taking this i have felt much more alert and full of energy. My appetite has suppressed im feeling really healthy. I would recommend this to anyone.”

“my hunger pains are gone and so is the between meal snacking and weight! This is truly awesome!”

“I’ve only had it a few days, but I don’t feel like I want to snack between meals any more and I feel full of energy, I am looking forward to seeing my results from this. Good so far!”

Is there a Guarantee?

Xédra-Cut XT is sold without a money back guarantee.

Possible Side Effects & Health Issues

None of the suppliers mention any side effects, but the blend contains a lot of stimulants so it seems likely that some users may experience side effects. The blend also contains synephrine—a potentially dangerous ingredient—so Xédra-Cut XT should be avoided by pregnant or nursing mothers and people who have any health issues or concerns. Anyone who has doubts about the suitability of the product should seek a doctor’s advice before use.

Where To Buy Xedra Cut XT – Purchasing Options

Xédra-Cut XT can be purchased from Amazon and eBay. Holland & Barrett also stock it, as do some other independent retailers, but it is possible the product may soon be discontinued because although customers can purchase Xédra-Cut Ultra XT and Xédra-Cut SF (stimulant free) directly from their website USN are no longer marketing the basic blend.

Most suppliers offer customers the choice of purchasing capsules in quantities of 100 or 200. Prices can vary considerably. Holland & Barrett charges nearly £30 for a 100 capsule tub of Xédra-Cut XT. The Amazon price is less than £22.

PhenQ reviewIn the thermogenic fat burning genre it is our opinion that PhenQ is better option. It is far less complicated to use and can be used by the casual dieter or someone more into more strenuous work-outs.

PhenQ is arguably the best selling fat burner in the UK – such was the demand that when it was introduced to the market it sold out completely after just three days.

The Exante Diet – As Used By Frankie Essex

Exante Diet LogoThe Exante Diet is a set of weight loss systems that provide the tools and support for people looking to drop anywhere from 2 pounds to 10 stone.

There are 2 very low calorie diet (VLCD) plans, 2 Low Calorie Diet (LCD) plans and even a 5:2 intermittent fasting plan. Eligibility for each plan is determined through body mass index (BMI) measurements and whether or not aspirants have existing medical conditions that would limit their participation. For those with the highest BMI’s, and looking to lose the most weight the first stage would be the Exante Diet Total Solution.

The Exante Diet is currently on promotion – it can be ordered from its own official website. many of the products are on special offer at over 50% discount

Exante diet product rangeThe Exante Diet Total Solution is a (VLCD) that offers a great deal of flexibility and variety.  VLCDs in general work by providing complete daily nutritional needs in 800 calories or less. Nutrients are ingested in the form of meal replacement products unique to each diet.  VLCDs have enabled millions of UK participants to lose thousands of pounds of weight over the last 50 years.

What Frankie is doing is incredibly brave – the usual partnership between product and celebrity is typically after the celebrity has lost weight …. not before. If she achieves her goal if will give a massive amount of credibility to the Exante Diet.” Antony Belanger, Diet Critic

Frankie Essex Endorses The Exante Diet

With the Exante Diet, users consume a maximum of 600 calories daily by eating three Exante products. It’s that simple.  Each Exante diet product measures 200 calories so there is no measuring or weighing of food necessary. There are no complicated foods to purchase or prepare either. Users simply choose between Exante diet shakes, bars, soups and food packs.  In addition, users also need to perform 20 minutes of moderate exercise per day.

ExantewebsiteRecently, former TOWIE star Frankie Essex has undertaken a very public journey to be another VLCD success story. She has recently become an ambassador for the Exante Diet plan and will adhere to the rules from 12 March through 4 June. Her stated goal is to lose 3 stone and fit into a size 8 by the time she’s through.  To up the accountability factor, and invite the public along on her journey, she has recently posed for candid “before” photos published in the Mail Online. Throughout the coming weeks she will continue to document her progress online.

The Frankie Essex DietAfter the Exante Diet Total Solution Plan, the other plans are the total Plus Solution, the Working Solution and the Simple Solution. Each plan still requires users to consume 3 Exante diet products per day, but they each gradually increase daily caloric intake with supplemental meals or snacks.

This allows a measured return to conventional foods while maintaining weight loss. A sudden resumption of previous eating habits will result in users regaining any weight previously lost.  Exante diet participants must cycle between the VLCD plan for 3 weeks with a 1 week LCD plan taken in between.

How does a VLCD work?

VLCDs typically result in rapid fat loss because of the way the human body works. It stores energy in two forms. First, excess starches and sugars are converted to fat. Long term energy reserves are also formed and stored in the liver and muscles. On a VLCD, the body is taking in far less than the 1800 to 2000 calories than the 1800 to 2000 it typically needs to function properly. To make up for this deficit, the body will first burn fat (or adipose) tissue for fuel.

Next it will turn to the secondary stores, which take the form of glycogen. Ketones are produced as a by-product of the glycogen in the liver being used up. When the body is producing ketones it is in a stake known as ketosis. The levels of ketones can be measured with over-the-counter urine test strips. Monitoring ketone levels is one way VLCD adherents can determine their success.

The Exante Diet, if followed as directed, ensures a state of ketosis. Dieters like Frankie Essex can easily tell if they are on the right track. Following the entire plan can eliminate the failure of yo-yo dieting, which is something Frankie has admitted to struggling with in the past.

Are there any side effects?

Some people are expressly forbidden to follow the Exante Diet. These include people under the age of 18 or over the age of 70, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.  Certain behaviour or eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia can also preclude participation. The Exante Diet takes these warnings seriously.  Users must complete a BMI check and contraindications check before they can purchase the products.

Constipation is the most frequently encountered side effect of a VLCD, to include the Exante Diet. To prevent this, the Exante Diet recommends users drink between 2-4 litres of water per day.

Do We Recommend

You have to be reasonably fit and healthy to take in any VLCD – if you are and you want to try one then this is the diet to embark on.
